Omišalj
One of the oldest settlements on Krk, dating from the 3rd century is Omišalj. It was built by Romans on a cliff that rises about 80 meters above the sea, overseeing the bay of Kvarner. An early Christian basilica was located in Omišalj area.
Actually first name was Fulfinium and the name Omišalj was mentioned for the first time in 1153. In the 12th century, Omišalj was also known as “the place of shells”. Experts believe that Omisalj is one of the few European places that have been inhabited continuously since prehistoric times.
A valuable cultural and historical acquisition is conserved in the rocky streets of the old town center. A really nice collection of rock monuments is located in the Lapidarij which is a great place to start meeting wealthy Omišalj’s history.
